Spanish Vocabulary for Body Parts: The arm area

Spanish Vocabulary for Body Parts: The arm area:

¡Hola! Welcome to Hola Spanish. It’s Romina Romaniello here, your Spanish teacher.

Have you ever heard this Spanish phrase before?

“Tirar la casa por la ventana”

The literal translation of this phrase is: To throw away (tirar) the house (la casa) through the window (por la ventana). I know, it makes no sense whatsoever in English but that’s because it’s the literal translation of each word. In most Spanish speaking countries, we use this phrase to say that we had a great party at home. In some countries, it’d also imply that way too much money was spent on the celebration.

[English in bold below]

Justo hoy estaba pensando en esta típica frase del español porque tuvimos un asado en casa con muchísimos amigos y familiares. ¡La pasamos muy bien! El día estaba muy lindo y hacía calor. Comimos a reventar, tomamos muchas botellas de vino también y hasta hicimos una fogata en el patio. ¡Tiramos la casa por la ventana!
Just today I was thinking of this typical Spanish phrase because we had a BBQ (en español es asado o barbacoa) at home with friends and family. We had a great time! The weather was nice and warm. We ate until we exploded, we also drank several bottles of wine and we even made a bonfire in the backyard. ¡Tiramos la casa por la ventana! (We had a blast!)

¿Y tú? ¿Qué hiciste el fin de semana ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que tiraste la casa por la ventana? Por favor, déjame tu comentario debajo.
What about you? What did you do over the weekend? When was the last time that you ‘tirar la casa por la ventana’? Please let me know in the comments below.
