¿Qué es el Chupacabras?
El chupacabras es un ser aterrador y misterioso que ataca a animales de ganado en zonas rurales. Hay muchas personas que aseguran haberlo visto, aunque la descripción varía según quién lo cuente ya que nunca nadie lo ha podido atrapar. Algunos dicen que se ve como un reptil, otros que es un mamífero parecido a un perro salvaje, sin piel y esquelético. Lo que nunca cambia es su particular forma de atacar: succionando la sangre, como un vampiro.
Generalmente, ataca por las noches. Sus víctimas amanecen sin una gota de sangre en sus cuerpos. A veces hasta les faltan sus órganos vitales. De allí viene su nombre:
CHUPA + CABRAS
´Chupa´ viene del verbo ´Chupar´, que según el diccionario de la Real Academia Española significa: ´Sacar o traer con los labios y la lengua el jugo o la sustancia de algo´. La segunda parte de la palabra es el animal que es la cabra, al que suele atacar con frecuencia, aunque no es el único animal que devore.
¿Dónde se originó esta leyenda urbana?
El Comité para la Investigación Escéptica de Estados Unidos asegura que una mujer de Puerto Rico llamada Madeylen Tolentino fue la primera persona en reportar un avistamiento del chupacabras en el año 1995.
Desde entonces, se han reportado miles de casos en otros países como Costa Rica, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Brasil, Colombia, Perú y Guatemala. Han aparecido testigos hasta en países tan lejanos como Rusia y Las Filipinas.
¿Hay una explicación científica?
Los biólogos creen que no se trata nada más que de una leyenda urbana contemporánea.
Piensan que en todo caso el chupacabras no es nada más que un perro o un coyote con un serio caso de sarna. Esta enfermedad hace que el pobrecito animal pierda su pelo. Además, no se alimentan bien por lo que suelen estar muy delgados. Al estar hambrientos y débiles, se ven obligados a cazar presas fáciles, como el ganado.
A mí de todas formas, la leyenda del chupacabras me da muchísimo miedo. ¡¡¡No me gustaría en lo más mínimo encontrármelo!!! ¿Existe este demonio en tu país?

What is the chupacabras?

Happy Halloween! Today I have a horror story to share with you. Be prepared for a sleepless night!
The chupacabras is a scary and mysterious being that attacks cattle in rural areas. There are many people that claimed that they have seen it. Although its description varies according to whom is telling the story, since no-one ever managed to catch it. Some say that it looks like a reptile, while others describe it as a mammal similar to a skin-less skinny, wild dog. The only thing that never changes is its killing style: it sucks out its victims’ blood, just like a vampire.
It usually attacks during the night. Its victims are found without a single drop of blood left in their bodies. Sometimes they are even missing vital organs. This explains its name:
´Chupa´ comes from the verb ´Chupar´ which in words of the Real Academia Española (Royal Spanish Academy) means: ´to draw liquid from something into the mouth by producing a partial vacuum by action of the lips and tongue´ (to suck). The second part of the word means ´goat´ in English. Goats are its most frequent victim, but they are not the only source of food of the chupacabras.
Where was this urban legend originated?
The USA Committee for Skeptical Inquiry states that the first person that claimed to have seen the chupacabras was a Puerto Rican woman named Madeylen Tolentino in 1995.
Since then, thousands of cases were reported in other countries, such as Costa Rica, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Peru y Guatemala. There have appeared witnesses in countries far away from Puerto Rico such as Russian and The Phillipines.
Is there a scientific explanation?
Biologists believe that the chupacabras is nothing more than a modern urban legend.
They conclude that in any case the chupacabras is nothing more than a dog or a coyote with a serious case of mange or scabies. This disease causes hair-loss. Furthermore, since they can’t feed themselves properly, they usually are very skinny. Because they’re hungry and weak, they have no other choice but to hunt easy prey such as cattle.
Regardless, the legend of the chupacabras really scares me. I’d hate to come across it!!! Does this demon exist in your home country?
