¡Ay, ay, ay el Subjuntivo! Es quizá, para los estudiantes de habla inglesa, uno de los temas gramaticales más difíciles de entender. Aprender su conjugación no es un problema, pero saber cuándo usarlo ¡vaya que sí lo es!
Oh, dear Spanish Subjunctive! It´s perhaps for English speakers one of the most challenging parts of the Spanish language to understand. Learning its conjugation is not a problem but knowing when to use it is really hard!
Muchos se frustran y evitan usarlo lo más que pueden, especialmente cuando recién comienzan a aprender este modo verbal. Si tú eres uno de ellos, la clase de hoy es para ti 🙂

Vamos a aprender cuatro frases después de las cuales siempre tienes que usar el modo Subjuntivo. Te recomendamos que las repitas una y otra vez hasta memorizarlas.
We´ll learn four phrases that always require a verb in Subjunctive mood. We recommend you to repeat these phrases over and over again until you memorise them.
Hay muchas frases más que puedes usar con Subjuntivo parecidas a estas, pero de momento es preferible que enfoques tu atención sólo en estas cuatro. La idea es que estén tan automatizadas en tu cabeza que sientas que casi no tienes que pensar al hablar. De esta forma usarás el Subjuntivo con más frecuencia. Con tiempo, te sentirás más cómodo usándolo.
There are many phrases similar to these ones that you can use with Subjunctive. However, for the time being it´d be better for you to focus your attention only in these four. The idea is that you´ll know them by heart so well that you´ll feel you don´t need to think too much when speaking Spanish. This way you´ll use the Subjunctive more regularly. Eventually, you´ll get use to it.

- Ojalá que… = Hopefully, I hope that…
- Espero que… = I hope that…
- Deseo que… = I wish that…
- Me gustaría que… = I´d like…
Let’s practise a little. Below you have four sentences describing situations that require for you to wish people well. Select an appropriate Spanish wish from the box for each situation:
1) Cuando visitas a un amigo que está internado en un hospital.
2) Cuando tus padres se van a dormir.
3) Cuando estás en una fiesta de cumpleaños y saludas al cumpleañero.
4) Cuando un amiga tiene una entrevista de trabajo.
